The Christmas season is a magical time of year when everything feels a little more jovial and people are full of goodwill. It’s also a time when people look back on their favorite Christmases. Holiday traditions can often stem from our own joyful memories of childhood Christmases. And for a lot of people, at least for the last half-century, Disney has been a part of childhood. Whether you were raised on Disney or only heard it by name, most everyone is familiar with the giant corporation. And it just keeps getting bigger. So, we thought it would be fun to put together a list of 12 of our favorite Disney Christmas songs. Let’s get merry with the magic of Disney.
1. “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” - Hannah Montana
For people growing up in the 2000s, Hannah Montana was a big deal. I myself owned one of her CDs in middle school. Many variations of Christmas classics have been covered by Disney Channel stars, but this is one of my favorites because Miley Cyrus has such a great voice. Check it out!
2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Muppets
You can’t have a Disney Christmas playlist without The Muppets! While the Muppets Christmas album had lots of great songs to choose from, you can’t beat a solo from Kermit the Frog.
3. “Jingle Bells” - Mickey and the Gang
Mickey Mouse has been the face of Disney since the beginning, and this song of Mickey singing “Jingle Bells” with all his friends is a great way to get a boost of nostalgia. You’ll get to hear from Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy, among others!
4. “Twelve Days of Christmas” - Pooh Bear
Get into the Christmas spirit with Pooh in Hundred Acre Wood! In this version, the lyrics are changed to tell us everything Pooh’s friends gave him in the 12 days of Christmas, with 5 golden rings being replaced with- what else? - 5 honey pots!
5. “What’s This?” from The Nightmare Before Christmas
Whether you see The Nightmare Before Christmas as a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, you can’t deny that “What’s This?” definitely fits Christmastime. As Jack looks in wonder on Christmastown and the snow falling from the sky, “What’s This?” is a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
6. “The Best Christmas of All” from House of Mouse
If you want a big boost of nostalgia, then add “The Best Christmas of All” to your holiday playlist. Featuring in the TV series House of Mouse Christmas special called “Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse,” you get to see all your favorite Disney characters come together to sing this song. As they all get together near the end of the special, they remind us that Christmas is magical due to the friends and family we have around us during this magical time. Do they still make Christmas specials like this for kids? I sure hope so!
7. “Holiday for Everyone” - Bear in the Big Blue House
Who grew up watching Bear in the Big Blue House? Their holiday special is a fun one, and one of the few I found with a song that celebrates all winter holidays, and not just Christmas. Check out “Holiday for Everyone” which also celebrates and educates kids about Hanukkah and Kwanza.
8. “One More Sleep ‘til Christmas” from The Muppet Christmas Carol
For many who grew up with The Muppets, it doesn’t feel like Christmas without The Muppet Christmas Carol. And while this is another full-of-fun song, this one feels the most nostalgic and captures the spirit of the holiday for me.
9. “A Ringlin Jinglin Christmas” - Kim Possible
Disney Channel loved to make Christmas episodes, and oftentimes they would include a song. For the popular animated series from the 2000s, Kim Possible, that song is “Ringlin’ Jinglin’ Christmas.” In it, the Possible family, Ron, and even their sworn nemeses Drakken and Shego join in on the song. It’s kind of out of place given what we know about the characters, but it’s a fun boost of nostalgia anyway!
10. “Shake Santa Shake” - Zendaya
Before Zendaya was taking the acting world by storm in Spiderman and Euphoria, she was singing and dancing on Disney channel in Shake It Up. I think, due to her pivoting to acting, people sometimes forget how great of a singing voice Zendaya has. This is a little cheesy, but anyone who grew up watching Shake It Up will love it for a boost of nostalgia.
11. “Nuttin’ for Christmas” - The Plain White T’s
Before you get confused, this song was used in the Disney Christmas movie, Prep and Landing: Naughty Vs. Nice. While it may have an unfortunate song title and is not directly related to the special, the song may bring back some memories if you remember watching this 2011 movie.
12. "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" - Chloe x Halle
This is a more recent addition, so it may not be as much nostalgia and more like an example of the Disney Christmas magic still alive today. This version of “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” comes from the Disney Holiday Sing-A-Long on Disney+ where the R&B Duo, Chloe and Halle Bailey, give us a beautiful cover of the popular Frozen song. The sister duo was the perfect choice to cover this song as they fall into the roles of Anna and Elsa with ease as they sing. Check it out!
There you have it! 12 Disney Christmas songs. I hope some of our selections scratched that nostalgic itch, and if not, I hope I helped you discover a new song! What’s your favorite holiday song that comes from Disney? Let me know in the comments.
And to all our readers, Savage Content wishes you a wonderful holiday season ⛄
